At the start of Saturday night’s Wild Wing Shootout feature race, Gio Scelzi was trying to chase down Cory Eliason for the lead.
After seeing Scelzi going in for the kill, Buddy Kofoid jumped at his opportunity and passed both Scelzi and Eliason on the backstretch to take the lead with 25 laps to go.
Kofoid got pressure from Eliason after a caution bunched the cars back up, but after Eliason failed to convert on a slider, Kofoid stepped it up.
The youngster picked up three seconds in the ensuing 15 laps and sped away from Eliason, taking his second straight Wild Wing Shootout win to open up the season.
Carson Macedo did work late as well, passing Scelzi for the third position in the closing laps to convert on the podium in the Tarleton No. 21. Rico Abreu rounded out the top five in the Paul Silva No. 57.
Kofoid will go for the sweep on Sunday night. Hot laps are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. CT on FloRacing, once again.
