Ken Roczen took the lead at Indianapolis half a lap after the escaping the holeshot turn from P2.

From there, he rode the same, consistent line for 20 minutes and a lap, taking his second straight AMA Supercross main event win at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Roczen, a 26-year-old veteran in the sport is off to one of the best starts of his career.

Still chasing his first series championship, Roczen leads the points race through five events and becomes the first rider two record a second win this season.

“It’s super early, honestly,” Roczen said on the NBCSN broadcast. “I’m taking it race-by-race. I know this is a very normal thing to say, but I think I’m in the right mindset this year to do that. It’s way too early to think about championship and even towards the end I don’t really want to think about it.”

The last time Roczen earned back-to-back race wins was in 2017 before an injury ended his season and derailed his career for a time.

For now, he’ll go into Round 6 with a 13-point lead.

Behind Roczen was the No. 51 of Justin Barcia, who earned the holeshot and pulled away from the field with the No. 94 bike early on.

Barcia ultimately didn’t have anything to beat Roczen, but when Eli Tomac approached to try and make the pass for P2, Barcia held his line. The two went at it for over seven minutes, and Barcia still maintained his spot to hold on for the finish.

For as good of a start as Roczen could ask for, Barcia may be in the same boat.

His best season points finish was 4th in 2013 and that’s exactly where he sits going into the next race.

Tomac would have made ground to second place in the standings as well, however, thanks to a late charge and a last lap pass, Cooper Webb was able to use a P4 result to hold on to second-place in points.

The series will continue on Saturday, as the tour concludes its Indianapolis swing with Round 6 of the season at Lucas Oil Stadium. The action kicks off at 7:00 p.m. CT on NBCSN.
