Kyle Larson looks to rebound with Outlaws at Ironman

In his last sprint car race, Kyle Larson went for a ride.

The former NASCAR star that had basically won every race in front of him over the past two months finally showed signs that he wasn’t immortal.

It likely won’t be a trend.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series heads to Pevely, Missouri this weekend for the annual Ironman 55 weekend at the famed short track.

It’s a place where Larson has seen an amount of success, including a win there this year. Not to mention he’s won his last three races with the tour.

However, there’s a field of Outlaws drivers that want to put a stop to the run that Paul Silva’s No. 57 is on.

Maybe the driver in the best position this weekend is Sheldon Haudenschild.

Not only is he the defending champion of the event, but the young gun is on a hot streak of his own.

Haudenschild’s finished the 18 of the past 19 World of Outlaws races in the top 10 and recently earned his first victory of the season at Lincoln Speedway.

A stretch like that – finishing near the front in races that a team doesn’t win in – is what puts drivers into the points race near the end of the year.

Thanks to it, Haudenschild sits 100 points back of defending series champion Brad Sweet, who’d like to end his own stretch while he’s at it.

Sweet hasn’t been in victory lane since the Outlaws’ trip to Cedar Lake on the 4th of July. It’s the first time he’s gone that long without win since before he went on his bizarre run last summer.

If he doesn’t get things together, he could risk falling out of the points lead again this season, with Logan Schuchart and Donny Schatz looming right behind.

We’ll see where the cards fall tonight, and this weekend, in the two-day event at Pevely.

The race will be broadcasted on DirtVision.com and is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. CT.
