The 2020 Hell Tour got kicked off on Wednesday at Brownstown Speedway and Mike McKinney wanted it to be known that he wasn’t fooling around.
McKinney took the lead off of the green flag over Will Krup going into turns 1 and 2 securing it down the backstretch.
However, two-time defending tour champion Nick Hoffman came on a hot streak from fourth-place, passing both Krup and Ryan Thomas.
Hoffman challenged the No. 96 car of McKinney, but ultimately wouldn’t be passed.
McKinney stuck it on the bottom and pull away, leading every one of the 25 laps in the feature event.
“Starting with Nick and Will, I knew it was going to be tough,” McKinney said. “They’re the best-of-the-best when it gets slick like this. Everyone always gives me crap and says I can only run the cushion at Fairbury, so I hope I proved everybody wrong.”
The Hell Tour will continue with its second race of the 2020 slate on Thursday night at Peoria Speedway.
