The collection of recent USAC Midget races have had to do with Tyler Courtney battling back in the points standings against fellow NOS Energy drink driver Chris Windom.
He got it out of the way early on Saturday and have got some extra help in the points standings after the results fell where they did.
Courtney earned his fourth victory in the past five races, further denting the large lead that Windom had built early on in the season.
Saturday, though, Courtney made quick work of Windom, driving by the No. 89 in the first five laps of the race before he would go to work on the lead car of Tanner Carrick.
Once up to Carrick, it took Sunshine a few laps, but he used a strong exit coming out of turn two to take the lead with 25 laps to go.
Courtney would hold place for the remainder of the race, but Windom got into the wall late.
With less than 10 to go, the points leader’s night would come to an end, and he’d have to park it from sixth place. That’s big in the fact that it dropped him all the way to 16th.
Windom’s points lead coming into the night was 74 and after the series leaves the state of Pennsylvania, it’s now a slim 31.
The series will race next at Lucas Oil Speedway in Indianapolis on August 22 in a non-points event.
