He started off 2022 right where he left off 2021.
Tyler Courtney is once again an All Star Circuit of Champions winner, taking the first night of action for the tour this year at East Bay Raceway Park in Florida.
“Getting one out of the way early this year kind of gets the monkey off your back,” Courtney said on the FloRacing broadcast. “Obviously, I wish it was points now, but to start off the season on the right foot is key.”
The win comes for Courtney after a brilliant restart halfway through the night found the No. 7BC getting a massive run off of the high side of the race track in turns 1 and 2, passing Kerry Madsen for the go-ahead pass.
Courtney had to navigate a number of yellow flags throughout the night, which bunched up the field and prevented many from getting momentum.
“It’s more frustrating because I knew we had a little better car than we did,” Courtney I was just making sure that I didn’t show him my line when those cautions were coming out.”
The opening races in Florida and Georgia for the tour is routinely not counted towards series points. The events are away from the region of the country the tour covers, so it mostly just puts some extra money towards drivers’ pockets.
It will however count towards Courtney’s all-time career wins mark, which jumps up to nine after Monday night.
Gio Scelzi rounded out the podium on the night and Tim Shaffer came from P17 to take P7 on the night. NASCAR star Alex Bowman recorded the quick time in qualifying, but fell back in the main event with some bad breaks around the yellows.
In his return to the track from treatment, Parker Price-Miller had an issue with his car early, but started in the first two rows. After dropping to the rear, he came back to record a top 10.
The tour will be back for one more winged sprint car race this week, right back at East Bay on Tuesday night. Fans wanting to tune into the action can do so on FloRacing.
