The California natives have stayed strong on the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series’ West Coast Swing.

Carson Macedo made sure of that on Friday, outdueling three-time and defending champion Brad Sweet to capture the win at Merced Speedway.

It’s the third-straight California race that a native of the state went on to win with the series this year, but the first victory by a full-time ‘Outlaw.’

Macedo made his move late in the race, after chaos caught up with David Gravel, forcing the points leader into the work area and bringing out a caution.

After a few laps back into rhythm, Macedo was able to make a charge at the front of the field, getting by Sweet with just under 15 laps to go.

Macedo held on to the win to top off the all-CA podium and earn his second of the young season, while Gravel settled for P15 and saw his championship lead shrink to 10 points.

The series returns to the track on Saturday night as it heads to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, California. The race will be broadcasted on DirtVision.
