It looked like Kasey Kahne was poised for his first career World of Outlaws win at Huset’s Speedway on Tuesday, but Spencer Bayston was the driver to spoil the show – at least for Kahne fans.
Taking advantage of a bobble from Kahne with a handful of laps to go, Bayston took to the point and earned his second World of Outlaws victory of the season in his rookie year.
“Yeah, it’s about as good as it can get,” Bayston said on the DirtVision broadcast. “This is such a bueatiful wrap. Just happy we can put it in victory lane. Barry was trying to figure out what we needed – we were kind of scrambling after the dash – but obviously, we got it figured out.”
The win comes in Bayston’s first night running his new True Timber paint scheme, which kicks off the multi-year deal in spectacular fashion.
It comes among beating Carson Macedo, who finished with a podium, as well.
“Well, I was kind of pacing him around the bottom,” Bayston said on the broadcast. “I was waiting to see what lapped traffic would do. I’m just really proud of (our team) and thrashing the last few weeks to (perform the way we did) in our No. 5 True Timber car. Any win is special – but the four-night week at Huset’s is great.”
For Kahne though, it was his first career World of Outlaws podium.
“We had a great car,” Kahne said. “It was a lot of fun to lead laps with these guys. I just need to do a better job and it was a lot of fun.”
The series returns to the track for the regularly scheduled Huset’s High Bank Nationals, three-day event beginning on Thursday and running through Saturday night for the $100,000-to-win main event.
