Scott Dixon drives away, wins IndyCar's return to Toronto

No matter who was able to ascend through the IndyCar field in Toronto, they weren’t able to make it past Scott Dixon on Sunday.

The six-time champion drove to his first win of the 2022 season, beating out podium finishers Colton Herta and Felix Rosenqvist.

“We made some adjustments this morning,” Dixon said on the Peacock broadcast. “It was a tough drive today. I ended a streak there, which is fantastic. I’m hoping this is the start of the roll. The team deserves it.

The win was Dixon’s 52nd of his illustrious career, moving him into a tie for second on the series’ all-time wins list with Mario Andretti.

“It’s amazing,” Dixon said. “To be close to Mario, every time I’m asked these questions, I’m just thankful we have Mario and AJ (Foyt) around still.”

Herta tried all he could on the restarts late in the race to get by Dixon, but ultimately took home a good points finish in second.

Rosenqvist finished out the day with one of his best runs during his time at Arrow McLaren SP, earning the podium spot and pleading his case with team CEO Zac Brown.

“I think this weekend hopefully makes Zac (Brown) doubt some things,” Rosenqvist said after the race. “It’s still a long way to go in the year, but every race we keep getting better and better.”

Graham Rahal, who finished fourth behind Rosenqvist, echoed for the Swedish driver to remain in the series in 2023.

“Felix has to prove nothing to anybody,” Rahal said. “The guy’s exceptional talent. He belongs in IndyCar racing and I hope he finds his spot.”

IndyCar’s next set of races will be held this upcoming weekend, as the Iowa IndyCar doubleheader has arrived for Saturday and Sunday.
