Lance Dewease used a powerful restart to get by defending World of Outlaws champion Brad Sweet with eight laps to go in Friday’s Williams Grove Speedway A-Main.
To get the win that he got, though, he had to pass the hottest sprint car driver around in Brent Marks.
“I don’t know if we had the best car tonight, but I have the most patience around this place,” Dewease said. “I was trying to (avoid) showing Brent that I was running the bottom too close to him. I didn’t want him to move down.”
Dewease tried to hold off on revealing the speed that the bottom of the race track held for him, and did so well.
Marks mostly stayed to the top of the track, jumping the cushion in turns 1 and 2 of the final lap and allowing Dewease to drive away for the win in Night 1 of the Champion Racing Oil Summer Nationals.
The win is Dewease’s 18th World of Outlaws victory of his career, tying Brad Doty 31st on the all-time wins list.
“We haven’t been very good this year – just by our standards,” Dewease said on the broadcast. “But to get a win against these guys, I mean, PA Posse top three.”
Fellow Pennsylvania natives Brent Marks and Anthony Macri rounded out the podium, as Macri passed Sweet in the waning seconds of the feature on Friday night.
The World of Outlaws will return to the track for a 30-lap, Summer Nationals finale on Saturday, with hot laps scheduled to start at 5:45 p.m. CT on DirtVision.
