Chip Ganassi Racing filed a civil lawsuit against its own driver and defending IndyCar Series champion, Alex Palou, amidst contract negotiations between the two parties as well as McLaren Racing.
The story was first reported by Nathan Brown of the Indianapolis Star, and says that Ganassi filed a request for a prompt hearing. The entity requested it would be completed by the end of August.
Chip Ganassi Racing announced in July that the team would be exercising its one-year option to retain Palou and issued a press release that contained a quote from the driver – one that he would later state was doctored.
Palou posted statements on social media three hours after the news broke, saying he was not yet signed to CGR for the 2023 season. Minutes later, McLaren Racing stated it had signed Palou to a contract.
We will report more information on the matter when it becomes available.
