Greg Ives to step down as No. 48 crew chief

In a statement he released Friday, longtime Hendrick Motorsports crew chief and most instantly the man atop the box of Alex Bowman’s No. 48 car, Greg Ives, announced he would be stepping down from his position at the end of the season to focus on his family.

The statement included confirmation that Ives would continue working at Hendrick Motorsports, just not as crew chief each weekend.

During his career, Ives racked up 10 NASCAR Cup Series victories as a crew chief.

Three of his wins came with Dale Earnhardt Jr. while his last seven have been with Alex Bowman over the past four seasons in the sport.

The NASCAR Cup Series regular season finale comes Saturday night at Daytona with the race set for a 6:00 p.m. start on NBC.
