Three-time Daytona 500 champion Denny Hamlin will make his SRX debut this summer.
The series announced on Wednesday that Hamlin will be competing in a one-off during the season opener for the tour’s third season on July 13 at Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, Conn.
“I am absolutely fired up to join the SRX season opener at Stafford Motor Speedway,” Hamlin said in a release. “That track has so much history, to finally get to race there will be a bucket list item for me. It’s been fun watching SRX grow over the past two years, and it’s an honor they asked me to join them.”
Hamlin’s announcement comes just one day after the series revealed that Brad Keselowski, as well as Bobby Labonte, Ryan Newman and Hailie Deegan, will race full-time on tour in 2023.
“When I reached out to Denny, and he responded in such a positive manner, it helped me validate why ESPN and the return of Thursday Night Thunder was such a great move for SRX,” Chief Executive Officer of SRX, Don Hawk, said in a release. The model allows us to secure his caliber of talent – and he can flat out drive. We’re thrilled to have him and love his enthusiasm to be a part of the field.”
The series will race on Thursday nights – six weeks in a row – with each broadcast coming to ESPN with an 8:00 p.m. start time.
