If Alex Palou couldn’t make a statement during last week’s Indianapolis 500, he made sure that he was going to make one this weekend.

The Chip Ganassi Racing driver captured the pole for Sunday’s Detroit Grand Prix, and although he lost the lead at times, he made sure to defend when the time came, earning another trip to victory lane this season.

“The car was on point today,” Palou said on the NBC broadcast. “Honda gave us everything we needed with fuel mileage. I’m super proud of the job we did.”

Palou was able to hold off Will Power during a late-race restart, which saved the win for the No. 10 team and extended their points lead to 51.

“Not yet, no,” Palou said when asked if it was beginning to feel like his championship season. “It’s too early, I wish we could say that.”

The series returns to the track at Road America after an off-week next weekend. The race will be broadcasted live on USA Network and is scheduled to begin at Noon CT.
