Brian Brown earns another Knoxville win amidst restart conversations

KNOXVILLE, Iowa – Brian Brown earned the latest win of his Knoxville Raceway career on Saturday night during the mid-season championship at the famed half-mile oval.

However, some controversy arose behind what came off as a jumped restart or two to a casual viewer.

Brown explained his strategies, which are shared throughout the pits among different drivers, to how he times up when he steps on the throttle:

In sprint car racing, a typical restart is controlled by the leader – when that car goes, the rest of the field can follow. Anything egregiously early, and a penalty might come.

It’s similar to a defensive lineman timing a snap in football.

Lynton Jeffrey was running in second during the pair of late restarts, and didn’t take issue in what Brown did:

Jeffrey opened up a second car for his team to be driven by Ian Madsen on Saturday, resulting in a top 10 finish for the Australia native in what was one of his best runs of the year.
