Tony Stewart’s Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) is coming to Knoxville.
The IROC-esque collection of legendary motorsports names will be competing at six different tracks over the summer – four on pavement and two dirt races.
“Our goal in crafting the inaugural SRX schedule was to feature tracks that are challenging, unique and have a strong motorsports history,” Stewart said in a release. “This six-race series does just that. Four renown pavement tracks in Stafford Motor Speedway, Lucas Oil Raceway, Slinger Superspeedway and the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway and the two most prestigious dirt tracks in the country – Eldora and Knoxville. All demand respect and each forces drivers to adapt. What works at one track won’t necessarily transfer to another.”
The roster coming in to race the tour is stacked with talent.
An IndyCar star in Helio Castroneves, former NASCAR Cup Series champion Bill Elliott, as well as former Formula 1 driver Mark Webber will all be headed to Knoxville on June 19 this summer.
Each driver will have a similar car for the tour giving it somewhat of a Race of Champions feel.
The series kicks things off on June 12 for the opener at Stafford Motor Speedway before heading to Knoxville the week after.
“To be included in the inaugural SRX season and to have an event live on CBS is something all of us at Knoxville are proud of,” Knoxville Raceway Race Director John McCoy said. “Having these high-caliber drivers compete at Knoxville is going to be great to watch, especially since nearly all of them have never turned laps here before. We hope they enjoy coming to our track as much as we’ll enjoy having them here. Last year was tough on everyone. Hopefully the addition of these big events will get the fans even more excited for the 2021 season at Knoxville.”
Knoxville’s weekly 410 Sprint Car Series will still compete at the track on June 19, while the 360 and Pace Pro 305 class will move racing to Friday that week.
