It’s been a different road for a driver like Spencer Bayston to get to the top level of the sprint car ranks, but news broke today that the young gun is on his way.
Bayston, who’s filled in and drove for a number of different teams in recent years, will be piloting the CJB No. 5 car in the 2022 World of Outlaws season, starting in February of next year.
“This industry, as well all know, things can change very quickly,” Bayston spoke about his year. “Fortunately for me, it’s changed in the right direction. This time last year I was kind of content and happy with a part-time job at home and racing here and there to get my fix in and have some fun. Now I’m looking up and I’m going full-time with the Outlaws.”
And change quickly it did.
Bayston, who was previously running the Sam McGhee No. 11 car, sat out last weekend and prepared to take over the CJB car.
The pairing will run the rest of the season together, beginning this weekend with the National Open at Williams Grove.
Bayston will see sponsor support from Signing Day Sports and JRC Transportation, and the car will have a new look for this weekend.
“We felt like this was the right move to get our program back to where it needs to be,” crew chief Barry Jackson said. “In talking with our team and partners, we felt like this was what was needed to restore our team to a winning, championship caliber organization. We believe that Spencer is one of the best up and coming drivers in the sport. We’re excited to see how he can grow and learn while being on the tour. In many ways, we feel like he is a driver on the cusp of great things, much like David was when he came to race for us.”
Bayston and the team will run through the World Finals at Charlotte in November before preparing for action in 2022, with the first scheduled race of the year coming at Volusia for the DIRTCar Nationals on Thursday, February 10.
