Buescher positive for COVID, Zane Smith to make NASCAR Cup Series debut

After a positive COVID-19 test, Roush Fenway Keselowski has announced that Chris Buescher will be sidelined for the NASCAR race weekend at Gateway.

Instead, Front Row Motorsports’ truck Series full-timer Zane Smith will make his NASCAR Cup Series debut in the No. 17 Ford Mustang.

Smith, who will turn 23 years old next Thursday, has made waves in the truck series this season by winning three of the tours’ first eight races this year.

The Huntington Beach, California native is in his third year of full-time competition in the truck series, amassing six career wins, 16 top five’s and 36 top 10’s in 56 starts.

Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Gateway is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. CT on Fox Sports 1. The truck series is scheduled to race at the track Saturday at 12:30 p.m. CT as well on Fox Sports 1.
