After a safety car brought the full course to yellow flag conditions, Carlos Sainz entered the pits to put on soft tires to finish out his race.
Behind him, was both Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez, each also getting the faster tires on while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was left out to dry in staying out.
The strategy didn’t work for Ferrari in Leclerc’s result, but everything came together for Sainz to capture his first career victory in the series.
Yuki Tsunoda was involved in a crash on the opening lap of the race that saw his car flipped upside down by the tire barriers. Tsunoda was checked out and cleared from the medical center, suffering no major injuries.
