After the on-track incident with Denny Hamlin during Sunday’s Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte, NASCAR has announced that it will suspend Chase Elliott for one week, sidelining him for Sunday’s sold-out race at Gateway.

Elliott was ran up and into the wall by Hamlin during the race, and shortly after he made contact with Hamlin, causing the No. 11 car to spin in a wreck that looked similar to one involving Bubba Wallace and Kyle Larson at Kansas.

Wallace was also suspended one race for his move.

In response to Elliott being ineligible, and Hendrick Motorsports’ normal reserve driver in Josh Berry racing in Portland with the NASCAR Xfinity Series race over the weekend, Corey LaJoie will be stepping in to drive the No. 9 Chevrolet.

While LaJoie isn’t in his regular No. 7 entry, Carson Hocevar will be the substitute driver at Spire Motorsports.
