Helio Castroneves set up Alex Palou for the final 15 laps of the 105th Indianapolis 500.
The pair of drivers would trade the lead a pair of times before the 22-year old in Palou would hold steady out front coming to the flagstand with three laps to go.
It was there where Castroneves would make his move, passing Palou and overcoming the field to win his fourth-career Indy 500 despite not running the series full time anymore.
The IndyCar veteran never won a title, but he kissed the bricks one more time on Sunday afternoon, in one of the fastest Indy 500’s of all time.
The favorite of the race, Scott Dixon had issues early on when a timely caution forced him to run out of fuel while under pace laps and fail to get his car retired. The same happened to 2016 Indy 500 winner Alexander Rossi.
It ended the day for each of them.
Stefan Wilson spun on pit road and Graham Rahal spun coming out of turn two after losing a tire in the only two yellow flags of the day. Those buried in the field had no chance.
Helio climbed the fence. He high-fived everyone on his way to victory lane. He gave hugs.
