The NTT IndyCar Series decided to unveil its schedule on Sunday morning, ahead of the tour’s penultimate race of the year at Laguna Seca.

The schedule features 17 races on the season, with just one doubleheader weekend, and – above everything – a whopping 14 race days nationally broadcasted on NBC.

We want to take you through the whole thing, from the start of the year with a season opener at St. Pete. The popular track is back on the IndyCar schedule at the front of the year, starting the tour the week following the Daytona 500. It’s the first time the series has started a season in February since 2004, when it was still running ovals exclusively.

Speaking of, the first oval race of the five the series will run comes in the second race weekend of the year at Texas. Whether it was logistics being difficult or something else, the Texas race interferes with the 12 hours of Sebring IMSA race – one that a lot of IndyCar drivers run, due to it being an endurance race for the sports car tour. It will be tough for drivers to make both races, but with the 12 hours being on Saturday and Texas racing Sunday, there might be a shot.

Long Beach and Barber come as races 3 and 4 on the schedule with off-weekends leading up to each of them, before the series ticks it up a knotch with the month of May.

From Barber, teams will travel up to Indiana for the month for the Indy GP on the road course and then the 106th Indianapolis 500 on Memorial Day weekend.

IndyCar opted to keep the momentum from the big race to Detroit, where they head the weekend following. In a big change to the slate, Detroit will no longer be a doubleheader weekend, hosting just one race on Sunday. This is something teams were pushing for on the 2022 slate according to Racer.com.

Road America returns ahead of a two-week break in the middle of the summer months for the series, before a hopeful return to Toronto that COVID has taken off of the schedule each of the past two seasons.

Iowa Speedway will make its triumphant return with two races and a planned festival-style weekend on July 23 and 24. It was announced a month ago and looks to be one of the marquee events on the 2022 slate.

The series will end the season with five races across seven race weekends, concluding on September 11 at Laguna Seca, where they raced Sunday. It will go well with the IndyCar TV deal, which will see all those NBC races and only conflict with the NFL for one weekend, rather than the 3 that intersected this year.
