It’s no secret that the first edition of the Music City Grand Prix had its flaws, but the event announced on Monday that track improvements are indeed coming for the second edition of the race to be held later this season.
The biggest of which comes in a move of the restart zone, which will now start the cars after they run over the bridge, rather than starting them where the finish line is on the race track.

The event is looking to ‘provide cleaner restarts and more immediate passing opportunities.’
Other modifications to the track include turn 11 being widened by six feet, transition areas at both ends of the bridge being smoothed ‘as much as possible,’ to help with the issue for cars bottoming out there and a resurfacing to the Turn 5 area on the track.
Turn 9 will also be reduced 50 feet in an effort to ‘accommodate additional suites in a primary viewing area.
All of these modifications were posted in a press release from the Music City Grand Prix, which can be found here.
Along with those, the event is adding additional gates surrounding the grounds of the festival-style race to bolster its track crossings.
The weekend will hold racing for IndyCar, its top development tour IndyLights, Stadium Super Trucks, GT America, Trans AM Series and now the addition of the Pro Watercross Series – which will see Jetskis race around the facility.
We’ll have more updates on the weekend as they become available. The IndyCar race at the track is scheduled for Sunday, August 7 at 2:00 p.m. CT on NBC.
