Josef Newgarden was released from the Des Moines MercyOne Medical Center Monday, after sustaining a hit to the head when collapsing by his motor home following Sunday’s race at Iowa Speedway.
Newgarden was treated and released from the infield care center after a wreck took him out of the race Sunday. The incident that caused his transfer to the hospital happened afterwards.
All of Newgarden’s test results while at the hospital came back negative and he will be reevaluated when arriving at the Indianapolis Road Course on Thursday for Saturday’s Gallagher Grand Prix.
Santino Ferrucci, a driver with IndyCar experience competing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race on Saturday at the track, will be on stand-by for Newgarden throughout the race weekend.
