After suffering heartbreak at Dover Motor Speedway 11 years ago, Ryan Truex returned on Saturday – racing in the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota as part of a six-race deal with the team.

He came away with his first career NASCAR Xfinity Series victory.

“I’m out of breath, man,” Truex said on Fox Sports 1. “I’m just so thankful – for all these fans, my team and everybody that stuck behind me.”

Truex ran a complete race, and marveled at how fast his car was during the race.

As the laps were winding down, he was just waiting for that heartbreak to return.

“I felt like, with 20 to go, I was just waiting for something to happen,” Truex said.

Nonetheless, Truex walked away with a trophy and a goal to return for a full-time season next year.

“I belong here, and I just proved that,” Truex said. “I’ve known it for a while and everyone around me has known it for a while… This is for everyone that doubted me.”
