StarCom Racing will be no more following the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season.
According to multiple reports, the team will sell its charter to Spire Motorsports, who currently runs two cars in the NASCAR Cup Series in the No. 7 driven by Corey LaJoie and the revolving door No. 77 car that Justin Haley has driven in 21 races this season.
StarCom currently holds Quin Houff as its driver and sits at 32nd in the NASCAR Cup Series standings. Houff’s best career finish and only career top 20 came at the 2020 fall Talladega race where he finished P13.
The acquisition of the charter comes to assumingly run a second full-time car in the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season. The charter guarantees the team entry in all 36 series races.
The addition of this charter brings Spire Motorsports to owning four total charters in the series, however, they have sold two of them to Kaulig Racing for the 2022 season.
LaJoie is expected to remain at Spire in 2022 in his second season of a ‘multi-year’ deal inked for 2021 and beyond. Haley will race in the Cup Series next year as well, but for Kaulig Racing in his own full-time deal.
The driver has not been confirmed for Spire’s second Cup Series car for 2022.
The 2021 NASCAR Playoffs begin on Sunday at Darlington Raceway for the annual Southern 500. The race can be seen live at 5:00 p.m. on NBC.
