Spencer Pigot’s crash into the entry to pit road was going to set up a mad dash to the finish of the 2020 Indianapolis 500 with four laps to go.
Instead of what was sure to be an electric final battle between race leader Takuma Sato and Scott Dixon – IndyCar ended the race under caution.
Sato would go to victory lane to drink the milk, sans fans in the background, collecting his second Indy 500 victory.
The win was a bit of an upset, as Dixon paced the field during the entirety of the day, leading 111 laps before surrendering the lead just ahead of the final pit stop.

The pair traded the top spot on the track, with Sato emerging as the leader with 15 laps remaining.
Graham Rahal was behind the pair during the battles and rounded out the race on the podium. Him and Dixon crossed the line side-by-side with Sato as he took the checkered flag, as well.
Santino Ferrucci and Josef Newgarden were behind the leaders in a distant fourth and fifth position to round out the top five.
Alexander Rossi was near the lead battling for most of the day as well, but a penalty on pit road would cause things to go array for him.
Rossi was sent to the back of the field with 50 laps remaining and was tasked with trying to race his way through 21 cars to earn his second career win in the race.
Holy cow. Alexander Rossi is being handed a penalty after making contact with Takuma Sato on pit road. #Indy500

He would get collected on the back stretch before crashing out and ending his day in 27th.
Dixon remains the points leader and has a tremendously healthy lead on the field, but in third sits a youngster in Pato O’Ward, who capped off an impressive run to finish sixth on Sunday afternoon.
O’Ward is experiencing a lot of success in his first full season, and with the shortened, pandemic schedule we could see him bring home a tremendous finish in the point standings as well.
IndyCar currently has five races remaining on its 2020 schedule, with the next coming on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CT at Gateway.
