Ty Gibbs did what Ty Gibbs does on Sunday afternoon, piloting his No. 18 ARCA Menards Series car from the pole to the checkered flag in the race lead.
The young gun, who’s won three NASCAR Xfinity Series races in 12 starts, earned the victory in the ARCA race at Milwaukee and capture his ninth win in the series in 2021.
“It’s just awesome,” Gibbs said. “Nine wins is crazy.”
With the victory, Gibbs takes a stronghold on the points championship over Corey Heim with four races to go in the season.
The pair came into Milwaukee tied in the standings and are the only two drivers running full-time in the series this year.
“It’s so cool to win here,” Gibbs said. “This track has so much history. I remember being super young and watching Denny Hamlin win here. I have to sit back and kind of think about it.”
Heim came home in sixth, so he’ll have a little bit of ground to make up, but make no mistake – this points race is far from over.
Iowa native Sammy Smith wrapped up the race in fifth, holding steady on the lead of the ARCA East regional tour, which has just one race left for the 2021 season at Bristol in three weeks.
The NBC TrackPass broadcast also revealed that the plan is to bring Smith to the 18 car that Gibbs is currently in to race through full-time, next season.
Daniel Dye is also running the East series in 2021, but a third-place finish wasn’t enough to surpass Smith and pass him for the lead.
The ARCA Menards Series will return to the track on Sunday for a ARCA-USAC doubleheader at DuQuoin over the weekend. That race is scheduled to take the green flag at 8:00 p.m. CT on MAVTV.
