The pole sitter jumped the restart, the defending champion wrecked, and the only other driver in the field with extensive NASCAR national experience didn’t make it to the green flag.
Meanwhile Chase Briscoe ran away with the win.
The NASCAR Cup Series rookie ran down with the ARCA West tour on Saturday to get some extra experience on the road course at Sonoma – it being his first race in a Cup car at the track on Sunday.
It went about as well as he could have hoped, for others though, it was a nightmare.
Zane Smith had problems with his car on the rolloff of pit road, leaving fluid on the race track and delaying the start of the race. Then Todd Souza jumped the initial start, getting black flagged right off the bat and being forced to drive through the field.
It didn’t go smoothly for either driver, but Jesse Love Jr. might have had the worst of it. He wrecked early in the second portion of the race and never got a grip on the road course all day.
It pushed him to a P19 finish in the second race on tour this season after he hoisted the big trophy at the end of the year last time around.
The ARCA West series will be back for its third race of the season on July 3 at Irwindale. As always, all of the action can be seen live on NBC TrackPass.
