The field of stock cars came sweeping around the tri-oval to chasing a glimpse of the white flag on Monday night at Daytona International Speedway, with drivers making aggressive moves trying to make their dreams come true.

Ross Chastain attempted to go to the low line and ran out of room, collecting Austin Cindric in the process to bring out the caution flag. Upon replay review William Byron was declared the winner, inches ahead of his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman to take home his first victory in the Great American Race.

The win becomes Byron’s 11th career NASCAR Cup Series victory, coming off of a season where he set career bests in wins (6), top 5’s (15) and top 10’s (21).

It also comes as the first victory of the season for Hendrick Motorsports, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary in the sport this season.
