The start of Summer for some is marked by a person’s break from education, the temperature outside, or a vacation planned out of town.

For late model and modified drivers in the Midwest, it’s marked by the start of the annual DIRTCar Summer Nationals – otherwise known as the Hell Tour.

The 36-race tour that runs throughout the heart of the hot months, predominantly on weekdays, hosts its first race of the season on Tuesday night, with both late models and modifieds taking to the track at Brownstown Speedway.

Both of the tour’s defending champions in Brian Shirley (Late Models) and Nick Hoffman (Modifieds) plan on being back with the series full-time throughout the summer.

The 36th year of the initiative features a points format where drivers drop their worst five races.

That means, for a guy like Bobby Pierce, a driver could miss five shows and still be in contention to win the championship title worth up to $36,000.

It all starts on Tuesday night with the first night of racing for the tour in 2021 at Brownstown Speedway. Like every Hell Tour race, the action can be seen live on DirtVision.com.
