Indoor season just started in the world of midget racing, and Jonathan Beason got it kicked off on top.

The driver of the No. 8 car was able to pull away on Thursday to take night 1 of the race weekend at the Gateway Dirt Nationals in St. Louis.

Despite midget racing’s biggest event coming on an indoor track every year, things can still surprise these drivers.

“I would have never thought we’d have to get ‘all the way up’ (to the high side), but my car was fast up there,” Beason said on FloRacing.

He went to the high side and booked it. When he wasn’t there he was fast on the inside.

“The car was really good,” Beason said. “The track turned out really better than it was for the feature than it was for the heats. We tried some different stuff tonight (setup-wise) to kind of get ready for indoor season.”

Modified star turned utility driver Nick Hoffman came home in second on Thursday – an impressive result since he has ventured into new forays of motorsports.

Night 2 of the Midget, Modified, and Late Model event can be seen live on FloRacing, once again.
