Bill Balog waited nearly a decade including almost 40 starts to get his first win with the FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions.
After knocking the monkey off of his back on Saturday, Balog earned a second win in a row, taking down the field at Angell Park on Sunday night to cap off what has been a monumental weekend for the No. 17B.
“We’ve had a lot of confidence, even with the DNF’s and stuff,” Balog said on FloRacing after the win. “It was nice to get that one yesterday, but… this one. I can’t believe we got two, man.”
Balog’s win came after passing polesitter Rico Abreu on a crossover that saw Abreu give up the high line during the first stint of the race.
Balog never looked back, though.
The No. 17B cruised away while Abreu diced with Ian Madsen, really pulling away after the last restart where Madsen would pass Abreu for the runner-up spot.
With it being Balog’s first full-time year with the series, his first win was coming.
However, this victory moves him from sixth to fourth in the series points as the tour gets ready for its most demanding weeks of the year.
The next time the All Star Circuit of Champions will be on FloRacing will be on Friday when they open Ohio Sprint Speedweek.
“It’s big,” Balog said on the broadcast ahead of his first Ohio Sprint Speedweek. “That’s a new thing for us, so we don’t really know the logistics of everything and the car washes and all that kind of stuff. That’s going to be a struggle for us to learn. Our car is really good when it’s slick, (and) a lot of those tracks are slick so I think we’ll be in good shape.
“I’ve just got to keep this thing in one piece because it works really good.”
