Bobby Pierce spent the first part of the 40-lap feature race at Beaver Dam trying to chase down Frank Heckenast Jr. He spent the rest of it holding off the defending World of Outlaws Late Model champion.

Pierce was in the top spot during the final restart of the night, taking the win over Brandon Sheppard at the Wisconsin based racetrack.

“It’s a bit nerve wracking when you’ve got one of the best drivers right behind you,” Pierce said on DirtVision. “Sometimes being in the cat bird seat is better, you know. I was kind of confused where exactly to go on the racetrack. To hang on to it was great.”

Sheppard had charged further and further to the front all night.

He inherited second after Pierce inherited the lead due to a mechanical failure on the No. 99JR car, bringing out the caution with 16 laps to go.

“I don’t know if I had enough to pass Heckenast Jr. there,” Pierce said. “I saw something spark outside of his tire right before that happened. It sucks for him. I like to see it just because it gave me the lead, but it sucks for him.”

Pierce looked around for the ideal lane and settled for riding the cushion in turns 1 and 2, but going down low on the opposite side of the track.

It allowed him to keep Sheppard at bay.

“It was a tough one,” Pierce said. “That was one of those where the track was super tricky… to get the win, it feels like it’s been a while – since the first two races.”

The Hell Tour resumes its season on Thursday at Davenport Speedway for its one and only stop of the year in Iowa.
