Brad Sweet drove to the front and never looked back, Friday in North Dakota.
The three-time and defending World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion captured his fourth win of the 2022 season at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, extending his points lead by a few notches.
A native of Grass Valley, Calif., the Kasey Kahne Racing driver earned his second straight win at the track, as he tries to finish off his run at another series championship.
It wasn’t the biggest extension of a points lead – in fact it was as small as it can get in one race. Sweet’s closest competitors in David Gravel and Carson Macedo filled the podium positions.
Sheldon Haudenschild started on the pole for the 35-lap race, eventually settling for a top 5 run for the No. 17 team after being passed by hometown hero Donny Schatz.
The race served as the World of Outlaws debut for Ryan Timms, who celebrated his 16th birthday the same day. Timms, an Oklahoma native, came home with a top 10 after a multitude of late-race passes found him in the P9 position.
The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to the track Saturday to take on Red River Valley Speedway. DirtVision, as always, will broadcast the race as the final race before the series’ September West Coast Swing.
