Nothing could stop Brandon Overton on Friday night.
Even a caution with five laps to go that bunched the cars up wasn’t anything to scoff at, as Overton skirted away for the World of Outlaws Late Model heat race win.
Overton’s biggest threat on the night had to belong to the No. 32 of Bobby Pierce.
However, Pierce wasn’t even able to start the feature. The team had to change an engine before the feature and because of the rapid pace the series was moving at to make sure the show got in in time before weather came in, they were not able to change it.
Instead, Pierce got into a competitor’s car, relinquishing his front row starting position and starting-and-parking the car to make sure it got back in one piece.
Devin Moran provided a late-race push to try and put himself out front for the second night in a row, as well.
Although, Moran couldn’t come up with enough momentum to set up the pass on Overton, and Overton quickly drove his car away.
Overton’s win is his first career victory at the track as well as his first career DIRTCar Nationals win, but it’s looking like Moran will come away with the week-long series title.
The action continues with one more night of Late Model racing on Saturday in the DIRTCar Nationals finale. As always the action can be streamed live on DirtVision and hot laps are scheduled to kick off at 4:30 p.m. CT.
