For the third-straight year, the black, orange, and purple No. 76 car went to victory lane in the Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora.
Brandon Overton made his way there once again on Wednesday, when the back 86 laps were ran to kick off World 100 week with the makeup race, crown jewel event.
“Dude,” Brandon Overton said. “I feel like every time I get up here I cry. Fuck, I had to go man. Special route. Special weekend. I’ve got all my family with me. Special fans, I appreciate it.”
Overton’s trip to victory lane might be as much credited to his driving as it was the yellow flag that flew with nine laps to go in the race.
It’s what lined the cars back up in double-file formation and gave Overton a second chance at passing race leader Chris Madden.
“I don’t know which one it was, but I was leading, I chose the bottom and he blew around my ass on the top,” Overton said on the FloRacing broadcast. “So, when he chose the bottom, I was kind of grinning but I didn’t want to jinx it and I drove it down in there and knew I had it clear, so I let it rip.”
Madden said on the broadcast that his team would have been fine had there not been another caution, however, it proves that the lane choice the pilot of the No. 44 made may have been the wrong one.
The action continues on Thursday at Eldora, with Night 1 of the World 100 going down on FloRacing. The pair of opening prelim nights get things started for the week, with nearly 100 cars set to take to the track and make some memories of their own.
Tonight, though, it was Overton making yet another.
“Sometimes stuff goes your way,” Overton said. “All the way up there, I’ve been thinking about how lucky I am.
