Dale McDowell’s story behind this last off-season was already something special, getting back into a car after battling cancer and getting back into the seat of his late model.
On Thursday night he captured his second World of Outlaws Late Model win of the season, moving him to second in the series point standings.
“I’ve been through a lot, and I have a lot of help behind me and support,” McDowell said. “It’s pretty emotional because I’ve been through a good bit, but I’m just happy to be here.”
McDowell may not run a full season with the tour in 2022, but what he’s done to kick off the year is nothing to scoff at.
Before the No. 17 was in the lead, rookie of the year contender Kyle Hammer was leading the race.
He retired from the A-Main after a spin ended his night, but the flash of speed had to be encouraging.
The series will return to the track at Volusia on Friday night for the penultimate late model race in the state from the early weekends of the season. DirtVision will have the broadcast, as always.
