Everything that needed to go right for David Gravel went right on Sunday night.

The Connecticut native drove his Huset’s Speedway sponsored No. 2 car to the front with the World of Outlaws on Sunday, collecting his third win in four start’s at his team owner’s own track.

“I’m really happy to get another win at Huset’s Speedway,” Gravel said after his victory on DirtVision. “I mean, look at this place. Four years ago it was closed down and look at it now. This crowd… it’s good to see. I’ve just got to thank Tod (Quiring).

Gravel started the race in fourth, trailing the likes of Wayne Johnson, Austin McCarl and Carson Macedo at the start of the night.

Macedo would get by Johnson early on in a demanding drive to the front, however, after he got into lapped traffic, Macedo wheel hopped on a lapped car and brought out the caution.

It gave the lead back to Johnson.

On the ensuing restart, Johnson would battle with McCarl before surrendering the lead to him.

It took a broken ladder on McCarl’s car to cause the 17A to get tight and bobble, giving the lead and eventual win to Gravel, who is fighting to keep a stronghold on second place in the World of Outlaws standings.

“That was a wild race,” Gravel said on DirtVision. “Guys got to the wall, I thought I was going to wreck a couple of times. I just bought my time and the race played out in my favor. The lead got handed to me.

The result, though, was the best career finish in World of Outlaws competition for Altoona, Iowa’s Austin McCarl.

He’s still chasing his first career victory with the tour, but as he said if you’re disappointed running second, you’re doing something right.

“I was just a little too aggressive there and got crazy tight – that’s obviously when he got me in one and two,” McCarl said. “All in all, if you’re disappointed to run second at a World of Outlaws show, you’re doing something right. We’ll take this and move on. It definitely hurts. I beat myself and I can definitely live with that more.”

Meanwhile, Allen collected his first podium result of the season and best finish with the tour since he captured his first career win last year.

“It feels great,” Allen said. “Huset’s is so much fun, especially when it’s like this. Having a podium is fantastic. I love racing. I love racing with the World of Outlaws.”

The World of Outlaws will return to the track on Wednesday night to make up the show lost to rain from last week.

Huset’s will also be in action on Sunday August 29, as well. Each of the races can be seen live on DirtVision.

“I grew up here,” McCarl said. “This is a second home to me, almost more than Knoxville really. Thanks to everyone that came out. Huset’s is one of the most baddest ass race tracks on the planet. I hope we put on a good show for you.”
