Kerry Madsen sweeps Jackson Nationals Prelims
Kerry Madsen celebrates after winning night 2 of the Jackson Nationals.

Kerry Madsen said after winning the opening night of the Jackson Nationals that it felt like a monkey coming off of his back.

Now that’s its off, the Tony Stewart No. 14 car is on rails.

“I want to thank Tony Stewart Racing. I’m having a lot of fun right now.

Madsen consistently looked like one of the top cars in the field throughout the evening.

During his heat race, the Australian native spun and brought out the caution, forcing him to the back of the field. From there, he advanced six positions in the matter of one lap around the 4/10-mile track.

He won his way into the dash and if it wasn’t for drawing the number 8 pill, he would have started in the top five.

Instead, Madsen drove from third, passing both Brad Sweet and Carson Macedo through lapped traffic.

“(Lapped cars are) just part of the game, you know what I mean,” Madsen said. “You’ve just got to get to the lane and make a move stick.”

The win is Madsen’s second in as many nights and his 27th-career World of Outlaws victory.

Macedo completed another strong run on Friday and will clinch himself into the King of the Hill along with Madsen, Sweet, and Logan Schuchart.

Despite starting 10th, Schuchart managed to come through the field and seat himself on the podium. A couple more laps, and he might have taken second from Macedo, too.

It was an impressive run for the Shark Racing driver, but nothing that fans hadn’t seen all week from the Rush Truck Centers 14 car.

Madsen will go for a Jackson Nationals win – and a $50,000 check – on Saturday night. Hot laps are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT and the action can be seen live on DirtVision.com.

“I’ve got to back it down a little bit,” Madsen said on the broadcast. “I’m don’t want to get too confident. We’ve just got to drive a smart race tomorrow.”
