If you’re reading this, Kyle Larson won another sprint car race.
Even in the lone track on the schedule that has seemingly been owned by a singular driver, Larson added another victory to his 2020 trophy tour, knocking off Sheldon Haudenschild to win the Ironman 55 on Saturday.
Early on, though, it looked like it might be different story – and that’s why they race 55 laps.
Larson held the lead through the first few laps, but Jacob Allen would charge to the front, throwing a slide job and taking the lead from the No. 57 on lap four.
Allen would hold off Larson and ride the cushion around the race track, but Shane Stewart – who set the quick time earlier in the night, would come through on the inside.
Stewart rode the bottom and picked off both Larson and Allen to take the lead on lap 17.
Larson would end up falling as far back as fourth, after Rico Abreu took to the inside and bounced Larson up onto the cushion.
Being the driver that he is, Larson got his car back going and kept chipping away at the lead.
Eventually, he worked his way back up to Stewart, and got by with nine laps remaining.
Haudenschild had followed closely behind, but after Larson passed Stewart, he got held up with the No. 71 car and ran out of time to catch the 57.
The win is Larson’s fourth World of Outlaws victory in his past five starts and that spells trouble for the rest of the series.
The next track they’ll visit is Iowa’s Knoxville Raceway – where Larson has won in his past three attempts.
