Going into Friday Night’s World of Outlaws Sprint Car race at Kokomo Speedway, the topic on everyone’s mind was if anyone could stop Brad Sweet.
The defending champion had won four straight feature races coming into the night and was going for a fifth-straight victory at the Indiana-based race track.
On Friday, we got the answer on who could stop him. It just happened to be his Kasey Kahne Racing teammate.
James McFadden took the lead away from David Gravel on lap 11 of the race, leading the rest of the way and eventually holding off Sweet to earn a 1-2 sweep for KKR.
The Australia native who was absent during the first five races of the season, earning his first win of the year in his sixth start on tour.
The win gives him his fifth top 10 finish in his six starts (the other result being a P11) as well as his third career win with the World of Outlaws.
Although Sweet’s win streak was snapped, the Big Cat continued his podium one. Sweet ended the night with a second-place finish, his ninth top 3 finish in the row.
The success wouldn’t be the same for 10-time series champion Donny Schatz, though. The Tony Stewart Racing cars both had a bad night, with Schatz taking a mechanical failure that resulted in a DNF and Tim Kaeding getting involved in an accident.
For Schatz, it was his fourth-straight race without a top 10 finish. He’ll fall to seventh in the series points standings.
Justin Peck rounded out the podium on Friday as he continued his strong start to the season, throwing this result with his Pennsylvania and ASCoC victories in past weekends.
It may not have happened, however, if it wasn’t for Tyler Courtney getting a flat tire under caution with 19 laps to go, relegating him to the back of the field. Courtney drove back from P23 to finish ninth as he continues to build up his winged-racing career.
Sheldon Haudenschild earned his eighth top 5 finish of the season and moved up to second in the points standings, thanks to struggles from Logan Schuchart.
His No. 1S car got a flat tire, sending him to the back of the field and ultimately resulting in a P22 finish.
Kraig Kinser rounded out the notables with his sixth top 10 finish of the season, coming from the B-Main to take one of the spots.
The World of Outlaws Sprint Cars are back on track tomorrow at Haubstadt, as they try and go for their 13th race of the season. All of the action can be seen live on DirtVision.
