He’s had finishes in every spot on the podium leading up to Thursday night, but finally in Night 2 of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series DIRTCar Nationals swing, Devin Moran got the job done.
The Ohio native in the No. 9 car worked his way through the top five on Thursday, eventually catching Chris Madden for the lead spot and pulling away from the rest of the field.
“Our car has been fast all week,” Moran said on the broadcast. “Hopefully mother nature holds off and we can come out here and show out for these fans.”
The win came for Moran after a multi-hour rain delay put off the action for nearly four hours.
He made sure to thank the track crew in victory lane.
“A huge thanks to the track crew,” Moran said on the broadcast. “We got rain and I honestly didn’t think we were going racing. Everyone back (in the pits) was complaining and not wanting to race, but we’re here to race and that’s what we were going to do. They did an awesome job and this is probably the raciest it’s been all week.”
Behind Moran was Bobby Pierce, who once again took the runner-up spot in a World of Outlaws race, while he’s still chasing that first win with the series.
Pierce plans on staying in Volusia for the next two nights, trailing the DIRTCar Nationals points standings by just four points to the head man in Moran.
If the weather holds off – and that’s a big if – we’re going to have a couple of different, intriguing battles to watch this weekend.
Moran said his dad couldn’t make it out to the action on Thursday night, but he got a fun text ahead of the race.

“I’m not coming out tonight, but just go win that bitch,” Moran’s father said.
And that he did.
Moran tied his father on the all-time World of Outlaws Late Model win list on Thursday and will try to pass him on Friday, god willing the rain holds off.
The action is scheduled to kick off once again at 4:30 p.m. CT streaming live as always on DirtVision.
