The World of Outlaws are heading north this week after salvaging the last week’s action on Saturday at Devil’s Bowl.

In another weekend doubleheader, the series will run through Missouri and cap off the weekend with the fourth annual Jason Johnson Classic at Lake Ozark Speedway.

The event honors the late Jason Johnson, who passed away in competition in a 2018 race, driving the No. 41 that still graces the World of Outlaws series each weekend.

While paying out $15,000 to the winner, the event gives a bigger winner’s check than a normal World of Outlaws race ($10,000), but the prestige behind Johnson’s name and the team – still ran by Johnson’s wife Bobbi Johnson – carries a much larger impact.

The event was won by David Gravel during the first year it was held, racing the iconic No. 41 for JJR before he departed for Big Game Motorsports to drive the No. 2 car he is currently in. Brad Sweet and James McFadden – now driving for Roth Motorsports – earned wins in the years after.

Sweet currently leads the point standings, earning 11 top 10’s in the first 12 races of the year.

The Kasey Kahne Racing pilot owns a 32-point lead in the standings over JJR’s Carson Macedo, who’s tied for the most wins thus far on the series with two victories early on.

On the undercard, the Xtreme Outlaw non-wing sprint cars will support the Outlaws, bringing a national tour as support for the races.

It will also create the opportunity for Brady Bacon to tackle a double-duty weekend in the series’ second race weekend of the year.

It wouldn’t be a Missouri show without natives of the state in Brian Brown – fresh off a podium with the tour on Saturday – and Ayrton Gennetten, both of which are expected to contend for wins at the track.

The World of Outlaws will open the weekend at U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn before making the short trek over to Lake Ozark for Saturday’s classic.

Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. CT on Friday and 6:00 p.m. CT on Saturday. All of the action can be seen live on DirtVision.
