Ricky Weiss returns to victory lane on the big stage at Bristol
Ricky Weiss celebrates after winning the 2022 Bristol Bash finale.

It’s been a long a time since Ricky Weiss has picked up a dirt late model win that cashed in over $10,000 to his bank account.

The Canadian driver who started his own chassis company needed some things to go his way over the past two years – since he created Sniper Chassis.

But on Saturday night in a late model climate that’s all about the chassis under the body, it was a Sniper car that was making noise going up the ramp that leads to victory lane at Bristol.

“It’s huge,” Weiss said of his Bristol Bash win. “We’ve been growing our deal, building cars – this year, we’ve started off strong. We knew we had a good piece years back, but there’s a couple of little things you just miss on.”

Weiss led nearly the entire length of the race, aside from a battle against Chris Madden that ended with the No. 7 car speeding away.

It’s the biggest win to date for Weiss since launching his company.

“As a team, we knew we had speed and we had been gaining and gaining,” Weiss said. “To finally check off a big win like this – it’s huge – and I’m sure people will be talking about it. Hopefully the phones start picking up and we sell some more cars.”

Weiss drew the No. 1 pill during the re-draw which sets the first three rows of the starting lineup by random. It was there he knew he’d have a solid chance at capturing a big one.

Once out front, his goal was to try to move around the track and try some different lines.

He led a plethora of laps in Friday night’s race, but was passed late by Jonathan Davenport.

“I just tried to set a decent pace, try not to use up my stuff,” Weiss said. “I told the guys that if Josh’s (his spotter) arms were far apart (meaning the gap between and the car running second), I was going to try and search the track and not marry a line like I did last night.”

He didn’t marry a single line Saturday, but he came home with a new wedding ring – just one in the shape of the Bristol sword.
