Rico Abreu claims High Limit race at Grandview, breaks Larson's streak

Rico Abreu has had one of the breakout seasons amongst the top tier of drivers in winged sprint car racing.

On Tuesday, he claimed his first career High Limit Sprint Car Series victory on Wednesday at Grandview Speedway, breaking the three-race win streak Kyle Larson had been on to this point of the year.

“That was just good racing,” Abreu said on the FloRacing broadcast. “On the start, I just got into the grease and turned a little bit too early. But, my car was unbelievable. The track kept getting slicker and slicker, and I could gain a little grip off of turn two. I knew it was getting dirtier and dirtier in the middle Kyle (Larson) coming, so it was just a matter of when to move around.”

Larson led the first half of the race, until he surrendered the lead to Abreu with 15 laps to go.

“Ricky Warner is the best crew chief in the world,” Abreu said in victory lane. “I was just waiting until my car came to me. We set it up for the end of the race.”

The High Limit series will return to the track on Tuesday, August 1 at Kokomo Speedway in Indiana. As always, all of the action can be seen on DirtVision.
