Riley Goodno earned his first career victory at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday night, winning the track’s weekly show over a slew of competitors from around the country.
Goodno beat out fellow Knoxville regular and Missouri native Ayrton Gennetten by 0.183 seconds to take the win in the 25-lap A-Main.
“I can’t thank (my sponsors) enough,” Goodno said. “It was a good time… My car just wasn’t very good on those straightaways. I just kept messing up when I got to lapped traffic. I finally got to a place where I knew I could get around the bottom where I could just be patient on.”
Goodno made the pass on Matt Juhl for the lead late in the race, ultimately setting himself up for the victory and a battle that placed him on the low line with Gennetten coming around the top.
Gennetten said in victory lane that everyone brings up ‘needing one more lap,’ but narrowly missed out on his first Huset’s win of the year.
“Ever since that first night, we kind of just struggled a little bit,” Gennetten said on the broadcast. “We’ve been fighting a problem (every week) and I think we finally got the problem fixed. It just sucks, I really wanted to win for these guys.”
Behind the top two, California’s Corey Day took home the final podium spot while Pennsylvania’s Anthony Macri claimed the fourth position.
The track will host weekly racing once again on Sunday, June 18 before the sprint car crown jewel event that is the High Bank Nationals kicks off on the ensuing Wednesday, June 21. All of the action can be seen live on DirtVision.com.
