Tyler Courtney was charging.
Hours after he lapped up to sixth place in the afternoon USAC non-wing Sprint Car show at Eldora, Courtney had taken his No. 7BC from P7 up to the leader.
But Robert Ballou hung on for dear life.
Ballou kept his foot on the gas amidst multiple slide jobs from Courtney in the closing laps, holding through on the cushion to put himself in front.
Instead of Sunshine making a sixth-straight trip to victory lane, Ballou grabbed his first USAC Sprint Car feature win in three years.
Chris Windom and Brady Bacon followed the two to round out the top four, while high points drivers Justin Grant and Kevin Thomas Jr. again lost points to Bacon in the race for the championship.
The series will take the week off next week before returning on May 21 for back-to-back nights of action at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas.
