It took a weird series of events to make it happen, but Shane Stewart won Friday’s World of Outlaws Sprint Car race behind the wheel of the Jason Johnson Racing 41 car.

But hey, that’s 2020 right.

Due to series regular David Gravel being away from the car for the Saturday portion of the doubleheader weekend, Stewart is running the 41 on both Friday and Saturday with the Outlaws.

The move paid off at Lakeside.

Stewart captured his 36th World of Outlaws victory, as well as a win with an eighth different car owner in his career.

That’s monumental for the Jason Johnson Racing team, who is chasing the Owner’s Points championship with the car.

The win, which came one spot in front the points leader in Brad Sweet, trims their point deficit to just eight points with four nights of racing left in the season.

The driver’s championship isn’t as close, but Logan Schuchart kept pace with Sweet, rounding out the podium in his 1S Shark Racing car.

Schuchart is just 36 points out of the lead as the season closes out.

We’ll see how it turns out, but one bad night can still change everything.

The Outlaws return to the track on Saturday night for the Jason Johnson Classic at Lake Ozark Speedway.
