The first piece to the Sides Motorsports open seat puzzle has been put in place.
Tim Shaffer, a Pennsylvania native and 2010 Knoxville Nationals champion, will pilot the Jason Sides-owned race car in the next four World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series events.
“I’m excited to have Tim driving for us this weekend,” Sides said in a press release. “I won the King of 360s at East Bay in 2002 and he won the 410 race there the next weekend. I met him a couple of weeks later. Shortly after that we started hanging out and it’s been 20 years.”
Shaffer will race with the series as it takes its first swing through Pennsylvania this season, beginning Wednesday at the Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln Speedway.
He will remain in the car through next week’s race at Bridgeport, and race with the No. 7S over the weekend at Williams Grove.
“Tim has driven for us a couple of times and is someone you know will be competitive, but not make bad decisions to tear up the car for no reason,” Sides said. “He’ll race smart, but if there’s a hole he’ll go for it.”
Sides opened up his seat to both full-time and part-time drivers ahead of the Bristol Bash, but had planned on driving it at Eldora before #LetsRaceTwo was canceled due to weather.
ARD will have more updates on this story as they become available. Fans wanting to watch the racing action can do so on DirtVision, with hot laps kicking off Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. ET.
